Jean Gray Mohs, a versatile mixed media artist currently based at Shopspace in Raleigh, NC, channels her creativity primarily through painting and sculpture, manifesting in organic wooden objects. Mohs employs a juxtaposition of materials—sturdy wood,  fragile waxed thread, and steel—to explore the delicate balance between play, risk, and disruption. This investigation reveals the tension between the internal and external, the visible and the hidden, celebrating the beauty in imperfection and uncovering the inherent strength within vulnerability.

With a BFA and MAT from Georgia Southern University, Mohs has showcased her work in 26 solo shows, 91 group exhibitions, and contributed to 24 museum and university exhibitions. Her art has been featured in esteemed venues like the Cameron Art Museum, Duke University, and Artspace, as well as recognized in publications such as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Southern Living. Mohs has been highlighted on podcasts like the Artist Mother Podcast and Women of Woodworking, and has enjoyed artist residencies at prestigious locations including UNCG’s Contemporary Art Space and Level Retreat. Throughout her career, Mohs has received support from organizations such as the United Arts Council, Raleigh, Arts, Inclusive Blacksmiths, and the Georgia Rural Economic Development Center.
